Hafan Menai is a purpose built day hospice facility for
Gwynedd and Anglesey patients. It is conveniently situated
in the grounds of Ysbyty Gwynedd, Bangor.


Nursing Care

The nursing staff will offer nursing care which includes addressing any physical, psychological, spiritual and social needs as well as the following:

  • Symptom management e.g. control of pain, nausea, vomiting and breathlessness.
  • Support and advice about your illness, medication etc.
  • Nursing procedures e.g. change of dressing.
  • Gain access to additional services e.g. Dietician, social worker, welfare benefits and specialist


  • Exercise programmes
  • Acupuncture
  • Mobility assessments
  • Mobility aids (tripods, splints, neck collars etc)
  • T.E.N.S. machines
  • Management of fatigue
  • Management of breathlessness and chest physiotherapy
  • General rehabilitation
  • Access to hydrotherapy pool at main hospital

Complementary Therapy

Complementary Therapy can help you to relax and increase your feeling of well being.
Therapies may include:

  • Aromatherapy. This is the use of pleasant, smelling essential oils used during massage.
  • Reflexology. This is a specialised form of foot massage. The feet are divided into zones relating to the organs of the body.
  • Reiki. Gentle ‘hands on’ therapy where you lie on the couch fully clothed. Reiki may help you to relax and relieve stress.

Your illness can affect you in many ways both physically and psychologically. Relaxation and Guided Imagery can help with this.

How You Can Be Referred?

You can self refer or be referred by any professional e.g. hospital staff, community nurses or your GP.
